Seems like I've had the front engine on my JLC H7 off several times. If I remember right all you have to do is remove the large screw that connects the front and rear engine. There is a hook on top of the front engine that hooks into a bracket on the bottom of the boiler. Move the front engine forward until it will unhook from the bracket. Continue to slide the engine forward until the drive shaft separates from the rear engine driveshaft. Be careful not to lose the spring and washer that are on the hook. Also be careful about the flexible "pipes" that run from the front engine up to the boiler. It's real easy to kink and ruin these.

thank you this is helpful.   however it seems there is one difference.   it looks like they now use a pan washer and screw on the bracket to secure the front drivers.   it literally moves forward and aft almost not at all.  seems like the whole boiler shell needs to come off.  ever had the whole shell off?
