Did you get an instruction book with the engine? That should show where the screws are that have to be removed in order to get the top section of the boiler to separate from the bottom part. They should be on the bottom of the boiler near the main driver on the front engine and under the cab in the back. There are several screws under the cab and its confusing as to which ones have to be removed. You may have to try loosening several until you find the right ones.

as it turns out lionel did change the mount. i was able to get she top shell of through finally. I had the right screws out but some bad wire routing had the shell in a bind. one the shell came off all the secrets were revealed. Thank you for your help!
