help please. lionel 022 switch auto no-derail feature

Hello, Question:

I just figured out that my Alcoa A Diesel has rubber traction grips on one side of the driver wheels. They hit the switch first and do not ground the outside rail to the insulated rail.

What can I do to get the switch to work automatically with my favorite diesel?
