Help with MTH Empire State Express loco

Got an MTH MT-3016-L hudson,can't get it to run with any other transformer then a PW Lionel 1033...tried the MTH z-1000 and lionel brick...it lights up and the bell and whistle work,but no movement...any ideas...please no comedy,i need info...thanks...P.S. it's proto-1
