Horn & bell control for Lionel 6-38228

I tried to create a direction, horn, bell box that could be operated with large switches called Jelly Beans. This is for our Canadian friend Matthew, who is physically challenged. He has his improved layout and a nice train set (6-30158). With his Ablenet control, he could only turn on the power.

I added 1/8" mono jacks to a Dallee #1102. His Jelly bean switches would plug into it and enable him to operate direction, horn and bell, crew talk. tested fine at home, tested fine at my LHS before we shipped it.

Now there is no response to horn and bell. The set has a CW-80 and Railsounds.

Are the signals different for the new locomotives than the MPC or Postwar Lionel's. Do you have to use a smooth sine wave transformer?

Any clues or help for a solution would be appreciated.
