From the two pics it appears your worm gear looks good. The teeth look level/unworn. Why remove it?

I agree with CW. All those wear rings on the frame mean the wheels were rubbing on the frame. New bushings are needed.

Now you may have to remove the gear, to replace the rear axle bushings.
