The 622 geared wheel and axle, the early magnetic axle, came as a replacement part from Lionel with the bearing on the axle between the wheel and the swaging. The axle would have been pressed into the gear at the same time the bearing was being pressed into the truck frame. I have not seen this done on parts for any other locos.
