I had "shop class", both machine and wood working, my sophomore, junior, and senior years in high school. In college (Diesel Technology) I had at least 2 machine shop and welding classes. All were a great benefit in my later working life. I don't believe middle nor high schools offer such classes any longer, since if it can't be done on a computer it isn't worth doing.
