Reply to "How-To guide on making a “Pacific” series sleeping car"

I think I have to stop labeling my project threads with the word “finished” because I keep finding new items to add to my Union Pacific passenger cars.  I thought this Pacific Shore passenger car was finished last year and then I found these great 41-CUDO trucks.  Anyways, back to the thread... after unmounting the brass assemblies from the test fit all parts were cleaned and painted with gray Tamiya “fine” spray primer.

After the primer dried for 24 hours the side frames were painted bright aluminum to match Union Pacific’s streamline passenger cars paint scheme after mid-1955.  Before you paint, make sure you solder the coil springs on both the top and bottom to provide an electrical connection between your car’s interior lights and the track.

The inside-top of the side frames needed to be filed back to help clear the cars lower skirt while going around my layouts tight 42” curves.

Here's two more October 2019 photos of 41-CUDO trucks running underneath UP’s dome diners #8004 and #8008.

To help other O-gauge forum members who find this post in the future, I'm attaching the original instructions for building this Kemtron truck kit.

The new trucks run great and look great under my O-scale Pacific Shore and are a much better match to what the real Union Pacific passenger cars had back in 1949.  Let’s call this project finished for now… 👍
