How to lubricate late 1980's & 90's Lionel G gauge engines?

I am considering dusting off a couple of the Lionel G gauge sets ("Gold Rush Special" is one) I have from the late 80's-early 90's for an upcoming event. I recall that the last time they were used, at least one loco squeaked quite a bit.

The instruction sheets indicate they are "permanently sealed" & require no service. I find that hard to believe. Has any one cracked open one of these units open to see what, if any, sort of lube & cleaning they typically may need? Thank you all... and have a great weekend! Ron wavey
