How to phase a Lionel PW ZW and a KW

I have a postwar layout and I'd like to run track power with the ZW and accessories such as the 450 signal bridge and automatic gateman off of the KW.

I assume the contactors would still work on the track if the power source isn't coming from the ZW and the KW instead. Will I need one of those black strips with the screws in it to extend/split the wires to my separate accessories?
