I still have around 200 pieces of Super-O track and a dozen or so switches tucked away. Other than the tops of the rails... I never cleaned it. Looks great dirty! It always worked great and with a little planning and tweaking the switches are pretty darned reliable as well. LionMaster locos look sweet running on it.
