Identification Help for Wind-Up Locomotive

While picking up some items for my layout I ran across a box of 2 rail track in the used/swap section of the shop with a single clockwork locomotive in it.  The proprietor quoted me $10 for the locomotive and a modest fee for the track so I indulged myself.  It runs well and the process of cleaning it has begun.

But there's no identification of maker anywhere on it.  To my novice eye it looks like it might be Hafner - the profile, wheels, underside and clockwork unit all appear to be Hafner.  I can't find any examples of any Hafner (or other maker) locomotives with this profile and cut out windows in the cab.  So, I'm asking for the help of others who know these trains better than I do whether this is, in fact, a Hafner and what model it might be (e.g. Commodore Vanderbilt, etc).

Should I re-paint it?  My guess is that it's never going to be worth more than the $10 I paid for it so I might as well bring it back to life with a fresh coat of paint, new coupler, etc.

Thanks for help and advice in advance.
