@Jim O'C  I think I can safely bet my left knacker the shell is not Hornby

The mech is def not up to the usual robustness of the time and does suggest a "lower" tier manufacturer , which is simlar as well to the Bing British which had a lightweight mech, as well as Brimtoy/Wells/Mettoy

This shot also shows the fitment of the cowcatcher and cylinders , they are fitted in a way that looks to me to be a factory add on to a basic frame . The attachment doesnt speak to me of a layperson add-on ? I could be wrong of course ...

This also came from an estate of a pretty well connected collector here in Aus so I kind of expect some kind of provenance that died with him sadly ... I note the weight is also similar to Mettoy/Brimtoy ?

I remember seeing a Brimtoy/Mettoy fitted with a cowcatcher for an export run somewhere on the web , but for the life of me cant find it
