I had no compunction about doing it to my "original" as it was pretty useless as a locomotive without it. It still looks cosmetically exactly the same as before, all the work is on the inside. I can't see these increasing drastically in value in my lifetime anyway, they're still selling on eBay at pretty reasonable prices.
