Dan, there were two different-looking series of Turboliners.

The second group, that was rebuilt and lasted longest on New York State trains were built at San Diego by Rohr.  They did not look French like the one in the photos here.  Those might be the ones you recall.

I was on the Engineers' Extra Board at San Bernardino when the second group was built, and I caught two delivery trips -- one from San Diego to San Bernardino and another from San Bernardino to Barstow.  They were interesting, but I was not offered the seat.  One of the delivery stipulations was that only Rohr-trained employees of the railroad were to run the equipment, thus our Road Foreman of Engines ran the equipment.
