I have none of the shelving (yet), but could a small drill bit be used to enlarge the holes slightly? Or maybe a little lubricant of some type might help?

Also, corners, either inside or outside are seldom ever square, getting a nice fit mitering might be a problem? Certainly will probably be fiddly anyway.
