As I strongly suspected after reading Dave and John's above posts, the traction tires are already installed on my newly purchased locos.  I somehow managed to entirely miss the final section of the Instruction Manual, which also discusses the traction tires, and clearly indicates that they are already installed.  Additionally,  I missed the four traction tires that are aptly circled in red in the photo directly above that Rob was kind enough to post as part of his response.  So, sorry for the false alarm, and if you decide to purchase this very nice set that is well reviewed by Dave and John in two earlier threads, we have decisively determined that the powered loco is factory equipped with both Magnetraction and traction tires -- notwithstanding the erroneous O.P.!

sorry for the wrong info Dennis....I kind of thought they were installed, but I didn't know if Lionel changed something....all the best...joe

Thanks Joe!  I thought that your post was very helpful and appreciate your taking the time to post the information.  Implicit in your post is the necessity to remove the trucks, which was really at the heart of the question.  I'm more familiar with the all or nothing approach to track adhesion -- Magnetraction or traction tires.  So, when I misread the manual, and didn't look closely enough for the traction tires, I was not surprised that the tires would have to be added after purchase.  That was obviously wrong!
