I never really quite grasped the concept of irony:

a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

plural noun: ironies

There for a while on the local evening news, all sentences started with " Ironically, . . . ." I had to look it up all the time - still not sure . . .
