The trickle runs both ways. Lionel O will eventually benefit from the smaller elecrtonics required for S. S benefits from the research and data lionel has already collected for the scale O products.

Plus, Flyer got Kadee mounting brackets for the Challenger and U33C and the upcoming scale cars are supposed to be Kadee-friendly. (And not to mention, scale wheels for the diesels...) Maybe these will eventually trickle up to the O scale line.
