Is the LC+ universal remote capable of a lash up with 3 different types of LC+ Locos?

I thought I read it was possible to have 3 "different" LC+ locos in a lash up using the universal remote but I can't get it to work. The idea is all three would be respond to the speed wheel together for example. It appears it would work if I had 3 GP20s for example. But one GP20, a GP38, and a NW2 - not so much. Has anyone tried this?

Here is as close as I can come in the instruction manual- that fourth paragraph apparently is not intended for the situation I describe.
