1 powered engine should have no problem pulling 3 dummy engines around. How many cars are you pulling?

Possible one axle has wheels out of gauge. Check each end while sitting on the track that they have equal amounts of play between the rails. Just wiggle back and forth. Sounds like maybe some wheels are too far apart and rubbing the rails.
