Here's an idea that maybe someone that has one of the various IR units could test out. How about using a mirror to make a break the beam style sensor? Is the sensitivity adjustable enough that an unmodified sensor wouldn't be triggered by reflections off passing cars, but would off the reflection from a mirror?
