How did you do the mortar work?

Hi Joe... I brushed white gesso over the walls, then wiped the gesso off with a dry paper towel. The gesso in the cracks remained, leaving the mortar lines. I used gesso (vs white acrylic paint) because it is what I have on my shelf. The is a little bit of white gesso that remains on the "bricks", but I think it looks good that way. I plan to "dirty the bricks" with some rustoleum earth brown spray paint ( very lightly, of course).
