Yes, that is true, but early Y3s also had airpumps on the front of the smokebox, which I haven't seen much on models of N&W's Y3s, so I am trying to hold onto a shred of hope that by some random chance there were a handful of early 2-8-8-2's that also had silver smokeboxes.
