Brandy, you are on your own shopping for a camera as there are way too many to choose from. Lots of different price ranges. I use the Canon EOS line of professional equipment, but the consumer grade offerings are top notch. Nikon also has a great selection. These two brands are the Fords and Chevys of cameras. No need for folks to say more like Toyota and Nissan, but you get the point.
There is a difference between "point and shoot" and DSLR cameras, so do a little research first. there are inexpensive DSLR's that will do everything and more, and there are point and shoots that have some of the features of a DSLR but in a compact offering.
