For what it's worth, attached is a wireless installation in the tender of a Williams Baldwin 2-6-0. A 3.8V LiPO is under the control board and the voltage up-converter is to the right of the board. This setup ran pretty smoothly.

LC+ should work well with battery power and is fun to run.
