Hi Jim,

My experience is exactly the same as yours - one day the base worked perfectly, the next it did not. I opened the base before sending it to Lionel and noticed the heat sink attached to the voltage rectifier was loose and there was no heat transfer paste used between the two. Given this, I'm not surprised there is a level of failure.
