Legacy Remote no info

My re mote went blank yesterday. when I first turned it on the screen info would not display but the numbers would. I turned it off and back on and both display were blank. The screen is backlighted but no display. Those with experience, have you seen this before? Is it something simple to fix or should I get a return authorization from Lionel. Thanks Art
