Legacy tender, Tmcc locomotive

So, awhile ago Lionel made a legacy polar express tender, and a legacy pm 1225. I cant afford a legacy engine, but I can afford a tmcc Berkshire. I wanted to know if it was possible to hook a legacy tender up to a tmcc locomotive, and if it would work properly? If that is possible I am going to buy a legacy pe 1225 tender and then buy a 2003 tmcc berk, then put a pm 1225 shell on it. All help is appreciated.
