At various times on this forum, I've talked about restorations that I am going to do.  Now I'm actually DOING one.  Here's the first, an American Flyer 3301 tender.  A friend who had no idea what to do with it gave it to me, and it's been just sitting on the shelf since last summer.  I've just taken it apart for shining and painting.  Here it is.

from what I have been able to figure out from my Greenburg AF prewar book and a couple of catalogs, this is the tender that went with the 427 locomotive in 1939.

Here are all of the parts masked and ready for painting/shining.2020-05-09 14.54.03

The wheels seem to have been painted only in the center with the treads left as bare metal.  So I have masked the flanges and wheel tread.  The back side was rust colored but cleaned up to reasonable appearance with wire brushing.  The brass fittings are ready for Brasso.

Now I've done the painting and brass cleaning.  I'll show the results tomorrow.

Painted and polished.  Now for assembly.
