The way I have dealt with the dilemma so far is to overprice everything so nobody will buy it. 
Seriously, I understand and, facing the same dilemma, think maybe selling on consignment may provide some relief at a cost of 15-20% of the proceeds. That way, you get it out of the house in a moment of resolve and, too embarrassed to ask for it back, are less likely to change your mind.
