Reply to "Lionel 16000 series coaches"

The Pennsy set was pretty much the first in the 16000 series (2400 series reissues), followed by the New York Central and the Amtrak "Silver Spike" set in 1989, as well as the Northern Pacific, Illinois Central, Reading and another Amtrak in the succeeding years.

In 1990, Lionel upgraded these cars with the "Great Lakes Express" Service Station set. They had die cast trucks and couplers. These were decorated almost identically to the original green and gray postwar versions, but the cars had names to acknowledge their home in Michigan - Mt. Clemens, Detroit, Lansing, and Chesterfield. These upgraded cars were used again in the 1994 reissue of the Union Pacific ALCO FA set.
