Not always. Some engines did, others not. For example, I don't think I have ever seen a 2037 master carton. Does such a box exist? When sold new back then, I believe Loco's and tenders were shipped in 2 different cases and it was up to the dealer to pair them together.

The non master carton loco's are the ones with the X on the box.
