What voltage are you using for the Crane? It sounds like about 14V which should be fine. Obviously a too-low voltage would cause the solenoid to have insufficient pull to keep the clutch engaged.

I am using 14vac, so I do not think that is the issue. The same happens at lower voltages as well.
