Lionel 282R Gantry Crane Repair Help

Just picked up the Lionel 282R Gantry Crane. Can not get the magnet to go up and down. Also, the Crane easily comes off the base. Does anyone have a repair manual that shows all the parts and how they go together? Would like to get this fixed before Thanksgiving when the grand kids show up.
