Judging by Paul's analysis, it would appear the issue is more with the O36 FasTrack turnout. And who is to say the engineering samples didn't work properly on a turnout mounted on a hard flat surface in engineering rather than a carpet?

That could be the case. Maybe the track is bent? That could play a factor too. The FasTrack on my layout runs fine. When I've received my Hybrid 4-4-0, it ran over the 0-36 switch. I should point out that my switch is manual. Is the switch in question brand new?
