Leaping into the Sounds of Steam fray again with an 8141 I picked up at the Springfield (MO) train show on Saturday, 11/19...
The first order of business (after removing the rotted foam from the board and the tender floor) was to replace the missing ground wire (in blue).
The next step was to figure out where the little indefinite went.
With the kind assistance of @Darkstar40's handy schematic, I finally sussed it out. A quick check with my bench transformer, and we had white noise!
Some electrical and double foam tape later...
And we're ready for the high iron!
Voila!
Motor works, smoke works, light works, Sounds of Static works...and the ventilated coal load to let sound out is cleverer than all get-out, even half a century later!
Another triumph for the Razorback Traction Company shops!
