I just was looking up part numbers on the Digikey site.
Is it safe to assume that aluminum caps are ok (as opposed to tantalum)?

There are an awful lot of brands from which to choose.
Kernet, Panasonic Electronic Components, Nicholson, Rubykon, United Chemi-con, and more.

Any particular brands to buy or stay away from?
