Have you seen the USB port in the publications? it's Micro-B. While I'm sure one can exist, a Micro-B to Serial adapter is not common.

I believe the intent is that you would use the SER2 plugged into one of the three LCS ports on the BASE3. IMO, this is a non-issue.
