Lionel Conventional GP30's

I am a conventional operator, but still like all the features that command control engines have, so I like to purchase PS2.0/PS3.0/Legacy engines, but I see the Lionel Conventional GP30's are much cheaper than the Legacy equipped ones. Do these units still have the same sounds and lighting effects, minus the Legacy electronics?
