I think the UP loco has Lionels "original " "Liondrive truck". If you rotate it 180 degress it will slip out from the chassis.

The top loco may still have the removable truck feature, its hard to tell from Lionels parts photos.

6-28264 This clearly has the "ears" that slip into the notches in the chassis.

IMO The biggest signifigant difference is that if you remove the collector, and the 4 screws on the truck bottom of the UP 6- 28264 loco. You get full access to the worm gear for greasing. I prefer this style truck for this reason.
