lionel fastrack 5" block

hi I am looking for help in adding an isolated block on my new layout. I have the 5 " fastrack block and am a bit fuzzy on wiring. I am coming off a switch out and wondering where do I but the block at the beginning of the next track after the switch or down the line a bit. Also how is this wired. I have a SPDT toggle switch and have run the wires off of it, do the wires go to the block track middle center rail ( I have removed the jumper wire per instructions) or does one wire go to center rail and the other to the ground of the track before it. Also do i need power from the transformer to the block track or does power come from the rails of the other tracks when connected? could any body draw a diagram for me to follow ? I am learning much from the forum and youtube lionel video but I can't seem to get this right. Thanks for any help
