Lionel LC C&O Berk volume question

I purchased the C&O Berk freight set for my son for Christmas. It's a very nice set all around (Best traditional set in the catalog last year IMO) . My issue is with the volume. When I have it on the layout running, the engine sounds are barley audible. Is there anyway to raise the volume so you can hear it over the train when it's running ? I've checked the app & all sounds are set at max volume.
