Just having the remote in the base tends to heat it up. I'll bet attaching a small 80mm computer fan to one of the round vent holes in the bottom of the #990 base would do wonders for the heating, and may solve your problem. Truthfully, I never leave the CAB2 sitting in the base, I've turned off it's charger and taped over the contacts years ago.
