Did you actually contact Lionel?  It doesn't say in the body of your post, only in the title.  If so what did they say?  I'd keep trying if you're set on having them repair it. 

Yes, I did contact Lionel via the e-mail listed on their support page and got an automated reply a few days ago saying they would be in touch.
