I have 2 dead Cab1s. One doesn’t transmit the other the red knob is dead. My 2 Cab2s which are original stock are still going. I guess it all depends.

The Cab2s are definitely more fragile and have a lot more going on. While the original TMCC are pretty bullet proof but not infallible. Lionel though has done the best thing by providing unlimited warranty for Legacy systems.

Seems the Cab/Base1Ls are pretty bullet proof as well.
