THE SOUTHERN - Although you indicate you've heard of some 'issues' with the Lionel Liondrive system, there's a brief (approximately 5 minutes long) video that you might want to check out - if you haven't seen it already - on youtube.com in which Mike Reagan (formerly of Lionel) shows a couple of advantages of this drive system vis-a-vis diesel locos. Just call up youtube, then type in 'Repair modern Lionel locomotives, from Classic Toy Trains magazine' and it'll pop up.
