Lionel Major Backplane "wiring" error on 4-6-4 Hudson and 4-6-2 Pacific Locomotives

The backplane is used on early versions of the upgradeable Hudson and Pacific Locomotives (6-18082, 6-18083 ,6-18084, 6-18085, 6-18086, 6-18087, 6-18088,and 6-28000) The backplane 691-PCB1-05F when you try to upgrade to TMCC command mode by adding R2LC board 691-R2LC-C08 will not work .This upgrade will never work because the R2LC pin 1 when plugged into the Backplane M1 pins aligns with pin 2 . The square pad that designates pin one on both the R2LC board and the backplane do not line up. This flip of pinouts causes serial data( pin 24) to connect with the antenna input (pin 23) thus the installation of the R2LC board can never work . Also the PROG/RUN input ( pin 22) is switched to (pin 21)( not connected) rendering it not functional. Replacement backplane with correct trace artwork is necessary otherwise extensive rewiring of M1 pin area is necessary.

The backplane area M2 pins have the same problem that pin 1 on the 103E-unit plugs into pin 2. The square pad trace (pin 1) on the backplane do not align with (pin 1) on 103E-unit. This sends serial data to pin 21 (not connected) Must jumper M2-21 to M2-22

I do not know how many locomotives where produced between 1998 and 2004 . The backplane must be modified in the M1 area to fix the pins 15 thru 24 . Also must include not documented change to adding a wire from J5-1 to J9-2 to connect  serial data to tender.

thank you

Railroad Jim
