Thanks to both of you for your responses. I have ordered item 26:

DRIVER / REAR W/ GEAR / POLAR EXPRESS /

Hopefully it will resolve the problem. We will check the gears on the motor shaft and if they don't seem to mesh properly we will order a new motor.

Is there an easy way to determine if you have a series 1 or series 2 motor without removing it? Does the latest motor say series 2 or have a different PN on the motor?
